I had mixed feelings about my stay at Barkers Island Inn. The location near Lake Superior was beautiful and family-friendly, perfect for our trip. However, the room I got was pretty substandard with a few maintenance issues, and I was disappointed with the service during breakfast. Overall, while there were some positives, there were definitely areas that need improvement.

Rooms
5.0
The room was supposed to be a standard but felt old and uninviting. It had a few maintenance issues, like the closet doors being warped and water issues with the sink.
Service
5.0
The service was okay, but I encountered some rudeness when trying to order breakfast on the patio. The wait staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, which led to a wait that felt longer than it should have.
Location
8.0
The hotel's location near Lake Superior offers beautiful views and plenty of walking paths, making it a nice area to explore, although it got a bit noisy at times.
Dining
5.0
The breakfast experience was frustrating since we had to wait a long time for service on the patio, and ultimately left without eating. Plus, I was unexpectedly charged for coffee I thought was complimentary.
Facilities

The facilities, like the pool and game room, were nice and well-kept, making them enjoyable for families.

I had a great experience at Barkers Island Inn. The rooms were warm and cozy, perfect for our family during the cold days. The staff was very accommodating and went above and beyond to help us. However, the hotel does need some updating, and our breakfast experience was less than ideal since it had to be eaten in our room. Overall, it provided great value for the price and was perfect for our family getaway.

The hotel is located just a short drive from Duluth, right on Lake Superior, which was great for our family activities.

We enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant, which had delicious food, but breakfast options were limited as we had to eat in our room.

The facilities were decent, with a pool and hot tub that our kids loved, though the layout was a bit confusing.

This hotel offers a unique experience with spacious rooms that provide beautiful views and a quiet atmosphere. While the service was a bit lacking at times, the amenities such as the pool and sauna made for a pleasant stay. It’s conveniently located near attractions and reasonably priced, making it a good choice for families or budget travelers. However, the dining options could be improved, and there were some cleanliness issues in the rooms.

I had a decent stay overall, enjoying the heated pool and friendly staff. The lobby was inviting, but the room cleanliness left much to be desired. The food at the restaurant was surprisingly good, but the outdated condition of the hotel was noticeable. For the price, it offers some value, but it needs updates to justify a longer return visit.

Rooms
6.0
The room was nice and clean, though some fixtures could use updating, like the shower heads. It felt comfortable enough to walk around, but it’s definitely dated from the 90s.
Service
7.0
Service was generally good, with friendly staff at check-in and checkout. They were accommodating to our needs, though it seemed they could have used more help during peak times.

The hotel had excellent views over the marina which made for a nice setting. It was quiet and ideal for relaxing after a long day.
Dining

I was impressed with the restaurant's food quality, especially the Lake Superior whitefish. It's not often you find good hotel dining at a reasonable price.
Facilities

I enjoyed the large and well-maintained pool area. It had enough seating and was heated perfectly, which I imagine is great for families during the colder months.

My stay was quite an experience with some notable highs and lows. The hotel has a charming interior and a great pool area with a sauna, but the staff seemed indifferent, which puts a damper on the visit. While my room offered a lovely lake view and decent space, it had a slight smell and some signs of age, which detracts from the overall comfort. Plus, the lack of breakfast options on weekends was disappointing.
